Trail One, Session 2 = Biblical Images of God’s Purpose, Vista One

1. Prayer:
Read the opening prayer together as you begin (page 10). Comment on the final phrase "You show me the path of life."
2. Trail Talk:
a. Read Ken’s journal entry in the side column of page 10.
b. Select a trail name. It can be the name you already go by or a special trail name you choose for this journey. Ken has chosen "wadi" which is a stream of water that is dry part of the year.
c. If you have chose a special trail name, tell the group the meaning behind it.
d. Review reading assignments for this week:
(1) What did the scriptures you examined this week reveal as God’s design and purpose for creation and humanity?
e. Interview assignment:
(1) Were there any surprises?
(2) How clearly do people seem to understand the purpose of God?
(3) Were your own perspectives challenged?
3. Video:
a. Show the video segment for Trail One - - "Exploring God’s Purpose"
(explain that each Trail will begin with a video)
4. Trail Markers:
a. Ask hikers to give their responses to Q2 on page 10.
b. Read these words out loud:
Shalom
Salvation
Eternal Life
5. Shalom:
a. Review the section on Shalom on page 11 of the Trail Guide for Hikers.
b. Ask hikers to give their responses to Q3 on page 12.
6. Salvation:
a. Review the section on Salvation on page 12 of the Trail Guide for Hikers.
b. Explain the usage of the fish symbol. How it was first used as a secret code for where to find the places where Christians were gathering. How they would draw the simple outline of a fish that signified that they were a member of "The Way".
7. Moving On:
a. Review what we have covered this week.
b. Assignments for Next Week
(1). Reading Assignment:
(a) As you read the chapter for next week (pages 15-20), underline or highlight special thoughts and answer the questions in the Q boxes.
(b) Complete the daily Bible readings and place your reflections, questions and insights in your "My Witness Journal"
c. Action Assignment:
(1) Complete the Action Assignment on page 14
